Walled Off Hotel opens in West Bank

A world-renowned anonymous graffiti artist has surprised Palestinians by opening a 10-room “Walled Off Hotel” in the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, drawing attention to the bitter realities of life within the illegal “apartheid wall.”

The UK-based artist, known by the pseudonym “Banksy,” opened the three-storey hotel on Friday, coinciding with the centenary of the Balfour Declaration, by which the then British government endorsed the illegal establishment of the Israeli regime on the Palestinian territory.

Israel Demands World Internet Censorship

The Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan has unveiled plans to censor the Internet’s worldwide social media platforms with the building of an “international coalition” to counter criticism of Israel.

According to an article in the Times of Israel, Erdan’s plan calls for “developing legislation in conjunction with European countries,” most of which “are very interested in this idea.”

The legislation would have common features, such as defining what constitutes incitement and what the responsibilities of social networks regarding it are, a spokesman for the minister told the Israeli-based newspaper.

“Companies that do not comply will find themselves hauled into court, paying a penalty,” he added.

According to the plan, the participating countries would be part of a “loose coalition that would keep an eye on content and where it was being posted, and members of the coalition would work to demand that the platforms remove the content that was posted in any of their countries at the request of members.”

There is a reason for criticism. It means some people are not happy with what you are doing.

Criticising Israel is not anti-semitic. (Forsooth)

Man seeks restraining order against God

An Israeli man has petitioned the Haifa Magistrate’s Court for a restraining order against God, claiming the Almighty has been particularly unkind to him.
The initiator of the request, a resident of the northern port city, represented himself in court, the Walla news site reported on Wednesday.

A protocol of the hearing noted that God did not turn up for the session, although it did not specify how the court determined the Omnipresent was not in fact there, as opposed to merely exercising the right to remain silent.

Criticizing Israel Is the New Anti-Semitism

The Israeli justice minister said in an interview that European leaders who criticize Israel are being anti-Semitic, just like their predecessors.

Criticizing the state of Israel and its government in any form is the new anti-Semitism, Israel’s Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked told The Washington Post in an interview Wednesday, accusing European leaders of replacing old anti-Semitic tendencies with a new format.

“In the past, we saw European leaders speaking against the Jews. Now, we see them speaking against Israel. It is the same anti-Semitism of blood libels, spreading lies, distorting reality and brainwashing people into hating Israel and the Jews,” Shaked said in an interview with The Washington Post.

European leaders have also expressed support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, which according to her also constitutes anti-Semitism.

BDS supporters in Europe and elsewhere are “using the same kind of anti-Semitism but instead of saying they are against the Jews, they say they are against Israel.”

Israeli rabbi: ‘killing Palestinians commanded in teachings of the Torah’

Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef said on Saturday night that it is recommended in the Torah to kill the Palestinians.

During his weekly lesson, the famous Israeli rabbis referred to the Palestinians as terrorists and told his listeners that it is recommended in the Jewish religious book to kill them.

The extremist and racist rabbi, who lives in the only democracy in the world, told his listeners to kill the Palestinians even if they do not have knives and not to fear the high court.

France Arrest Woman For Wearing T-shirt Criticising Israel

France has intensified its war on free speech this week by arresting a woman for wearing a T-shirt that criticised Israel by promoting the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement in support of Palestine.

The woman was taking part in a march for International Women’s Day in Paris on Sunday, when undercover police grabbed her and detained her for wearing the ‘illegal’ t-shirt that had the words “Boycott Apartheid Israel” printed on it.

Boycott Divestment Sanctions

BDS eventually worked on South Africa. The indigenous people were supressed by the white Europeans who had gradually taken over the country from about 1650. The whites ruled over the blacks and eventually brought about apartheid. In the 1980s, the anti-apartheid movements in the United States and Europe were gaining support for boycotts against South Africa, and in the end the west helped end apartheid.

The suppression of the Palestinians has come to a very dire situation. They are oppressed, marginalised and treated as second class citizens. Segregated roads, buses, etc.
So why is it that if the same pressure is put on Israel to end its oppression of the Palestinians that it is labelled anti-Semite? Surely there are many similarities between South Africa and Israel. But instead of western countries supporting the Boycott Divestment Sanctions (BDS) movement they are now trying to make it illegal to criticise Israel.

Just this last week in France a woman was arrested for wearing a T-shirt printed with words ‘Boycott Apartheid Israel’ Why is Israel protected above all other countries?

Also Sephardi Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef said this last weekend that it is recommended in the Torah to kill the Palestinians.

If Israel ever manages to completely annihilate the Palestinians, will the western governments still not say a word against Israel?

SodaStream admits bowing to boycott pressure

SodaStream, the maker of fizzy drink machines, has confirmed that pressure from an international boycott campaign prompted it to withdraw from the occupied West Bank.

In a recent interview with The Jerusalem Post, SodaStream’s CEO Daniel Birnbaum said that his firm had planned to eventually close its factory in Mishor Adumim, an industrial park adjoining an Israeli settlement in the West Bank.

The shutdown was accelerated by pressure from the Palestinian-led boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, he confirmed.

“We didn’t leave Mishor Adumim because of BDS, we had a consolidation plan and we simply ran out of room for expansion there,” Birnbaum said. “However, if it wasn’t for BDS, we might have stayed there another year or two, so it did have some effect. So, you can say that BDS was responsible for 500 Palestinians losing their jobs when SodaStream moved.”

Birnbaum’s profession of concern for his former employees should be treated with skepticism.

UK Israeli boycott ban contradicts official govt business guidelines

serveimageC307RH6OBritain’s ban on the public boycott of goods from Israel’s occupied territories contradicts its own official business guidelines, documents have revealed.

The controversial new law, which would ban local councils, student unions and other public bodies from boycotting goods for political reasons, was announced by the government on Monday and has been implemented without parliamentary debate or vote.

However, documents first seen by the Independent show the Foreign Office’s Overseas Business Risk assessment for Israel states that the government does “not encourage or offer support” to business with the occupied territories, apparently contradicting the new regulation.

“Settlements are illegal under international law, constitute an obstacle to peace and threaten to make a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict impossible,” the document reads.

“There are therefore clear risks related to economic and financial activities in the settlements, and we do not encourage or offer support to such activity.”

Israeli Rabbi Calls for Execution Of All Palestinians

A senior Israeli rabbi says Tel Aviv should execute Palestinians instead of arresting them and “leave no one alive” in order to establish safety in the occupied Palestinian territories, Palestinian media report.

“Israeli army has to stop arresting Palestinians,” Shmuel Eliyahu said in a message posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday, adding, “but, it must execute them and leave no one alive,” Palestine News Network reported.

As chief rabbi of the city of Safed, Eliyahu is known for his racist behavior and remarks about Arabs and Muslims. He had earlier urged the Israeli regime to take “revenge” against Arabs in order to restore what he called Israel’s deterrence.

He also described Palestinians as the enemy of Israel and claimed that they “must be destroyed and crushed in order to end violence.”

“If they don’t stop after we kill 100, then we must kill a thousand. And if they do not stop after 1,000, then we must kill 10,000. If they still don’t stop we must kill 100,000, even a million,” the Jerusalem Post quoted him as saying in 2007.

Israel meets with Google and YouTube to discuss censoring Palestinian videos

Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely has met with representatives of YouTube and Google to discuss ways to cooperate in what she calls the fight against “inciting violence and terrorism”.

Israel’s Maariv newspaper reported yesterday that Hotovely agreed to work with Google and YouTube in order to establish a joint working mechanism to monitor and prevent the publication of “inflammatory material” originating in the Palestinian territories.

Since the latest escalation of violence between Palestinians and Israeli security services that erupted at the beginning of October, many people have been sharing videos depicting Israeli aggression towards Palestinians to highlight the Palestinian perspective of the conflict. London-based Arab newspaper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed has expressed concerns that the meetings suggest moves towards censoring Palestinian material on the part of the Israeli state.

Co-operative Bank close Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s account

Today (24 Nov 2015) the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) has launched a legal case against the Co-operative Bank on the grounds of discrimination. Last month, PSC’s account was closed by the Co-operative Bank which cited “the Bank’s risk appetite” for the closure and has refused to elaborate further. Another 20 organisations working for Palestine – including a number of PSC branches – have also had their accounts closed or denied. PSC and its legal team believe the decision is discriminatory and contravenes the Equality Act 2010. PSC has today initiated legal proceedings against the Bank. ITN solicitors, acting on behalf of PSC, state the Co-operative Bank’s “failure to provide any reasons for the closure of PSC’s account, which has been compounded by your failure to provide appropriate disclosure, leads to the conclusion that the decision to close the account is based on: Our client’s cogent belief in Palestinian rights, including the right to self-determination and the right of return, and to oppose Israel’s occupation and violations of international law. The nationality or religion of the Palestinian people.” Therefore the decision to close PSC’s account is “contrary to sections 13 and 29 of the [Equality] Act [2010]”.

Leader of the largest Jewish group in North America criticises Israel’s policies toward Palestinians

The strong criticism of Israel’s policies toward Palestinians by the leader of the largest Jewish group in North America is a “wakeup call” to the Zionist regime, an American writer and political commentator says.

Marcy Winograd, who is based in Santa Monica, California, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV on Saturday, after Rabbi Rick Jacobs, president of the Union for Reform Judaism, slammed Israel’s “misguided policies” against the people of Palestine.

Speaking in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, Rabbi Jacobs said the Jewish community must not remain silent when hate-crime attacks kill innocent Palestinians in the occupied territories.

Jacobs also said that the reform movement “has long opposed Israeli settlement policy in the West Bank.”

Fifteen years after the attack on the USS Liberty, an Israeli pilot approached Liberty survivors and then held extensive interviews with former Congressman Paul N. (Pete) McCloskey about his role. According to this senior Israeli lead pilot, he recognized the Liberty as American immediately, so informed his headquarters, and was told to ignore the American flag and continue his attack. He refused to do so and returned to base, where he was arrested.

Later, a dual-citizen Israeli major told survivors that he was in an Israeli war room where he heard that pilot’s radio report. The attacking pilots and everyone in the Israeli war room knew that they were attacking an American ship, the major said. He recanted the statement only after he received threatening phone calls from Israel.

The pilot’s protests also were heard by radio monitors in the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon. Then-U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Dwight Porter has confirmed this. Porter told his story to syndicated columnists Rowland Evans and Robert Novak and offered to submit to further questioning by authorities. Unfortunately, no one in the U.S. government has any interest in hearing these first-person accounts of Israeli treachery.

Help get Benjamin Netanyahu arrested for war crimes: sign this petition

Sign this petition and help get Benjamin Netanyahu’s arrest for war crimes debated in parliament.

In September 2015, Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes an official state visit to Britain. A parliamentary petition is calling for him to be arrested for war crimes following Israel’s barbaric assault on Gaza in Summer 2014, in which over 2,200 Palestinians were killed, most of them civilians, including more than 500 children.

The petition says:

Benjamin Netanyahu is to hold talks in London this September. Under international law he should be arrested for war crimes upon arrival in the U.K for the massacre of over 2000 civilians in 2014.

The petition is well on the way to getting 100,000 signatures, which will qualify it for debate by MPs in parliament. The petition can be signed by UK citizens and residents and British citizens living abroad.

Israelis ‘detained and then set free’ at Heathrow Airport .

The British authorities detained a number of Israeli officials on their arrival at London’s Heathrow Airport earlier this week, it has been claimed by Israel’s Channel 2 TV. Those held included the former head of Israeli military intelligence, Major General Amos Yadlin, former Army Chiefs of Staff Danny Halotz and Gabi Ashkenazi, as well as ex-National Security Advisor Yaakov Amidror.

Channel 2 TV said that all were questioned briefly before being sent back to Israel. The station said that further details were not provided by Yadlin, so the situation remains unclear.

According to the channel, this was not the first time that Israeli officials have been arrested or threatened with arrest in Britain. It claimed that former Chief of Staff Shaul Mofaz cancelled a trip to London, fearing that he would have been arrested on arrival in the UK.

Israel’s endless misery for Gaza is backfiring

For those trying to read developments between Israel and Gaza over the past weeks, the picture has been unusually puzzling.

‘A month ago European diplomats and Palestinian officials in the West Bank suggested that Israel and Hamas were taking “baby steps”, as one Palestinian analyst termed it, towards a truce.

Then earlier this month, as an attack blamed on the extremists of Islamic State (ISIS) killed dozens in Sinai, an Israeli general accused Hamas of supplying the weapons used against the Egyptian military.

A short time later, a group of Israeli army commanders urged the easing of the near-decade blockade of Gaza as a way to end Hamas’ isolation.

So what’s going on? Does Israel want Hamas weakened or strengthened?’

David Cameron Seems Slightly Confused

In a ‘landmark speech’ according to The Times, British PM David Cameron promised to single out “Muslim conspiracy theorists” who believe that “Jews exercise malevolent power, that 9/11 was inspired by the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad, and that Britain allowed 7/7 because it wanted an anti Muslim backlash.” PM Cameron vowed to tackle ideas “hostile” to British liberal values but I am baffled – if I understand it correctly, according to Cameron, everyone in Britain except Muslims, is allowed to discuss issues of Jewish power or whether 9/11 was a Mossad operation.

Arab League chief says Israel must declare nuclear weapons

Arab League Secretary General Nabil Elaraby has called on the international community to pressure the Israeli regime into declaring its nuclear weapons.

“It’s time for the international community… to stop its policy of double standards and to undertake its responsibilities by pressuring Israel to join the non-proliferation agreement (NPT),” Elaraby said in a statement released on Wednesday.

All of Israel’s nuclear facilities must be placed under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), he added.

Israel is widely believed to be the sole possessor of a nuclear arsenal in the Middle East and has so far blatantly violated the international rules regarding nuclear non-proliferation.

Israel stooges’ shameless exhibitionism in British parliament

It has no nukes, no navy, no air-force, no tanks, no phosphor bombs, no submarines, no guided missiles, no exits, nowhere to run.

Its people are terrorised, blockaded and exhausted, and their homes are rubble.

Unemployment is the highest in the world and 73 per cent of its inhabitants suffer food insecurity.

But, suddenly, Gaza is “a recurring threat to peace”!

This blame-it-on-Gaza bombshell came in the middle of a House of Lords debate on 7 July on the political situation in the Gaza Strip.

Lord Davies of Stamford, formerly the MP Quentin Davies, stood up:

My Lords, there are five salient facts that ought to come out of any debate about Gaza… One is that Gaza is clearly a most unpleasant place to live: it is extremely poor and very violent. It is poor partially because of the blockades that have been imposed by both its neighbours, Egypt and Israel, for reasons that may be very understandable.

The second salient fact that has come out and which is certainly recognised all over the world is that Gaza in its present state is a recurring threat to peace in the region. Rockets are continually fired at Israel. After some years, the Israelis inevitably lose their patience… and intervene militarily. There is nasty military action, obviously with a lot of fatalities.

Clearly there are people representing our country in the Lords that are ill informed about world affairs

Gaza: The Hijacking of The Marianne by “The Pirates of the Mediterranean.”

Piracy:” The practice of attacking and robbing ships at sea.” (Oxford English Dictionary.)

The “international community” is, it would seem, remarkably selective over piracy.

Concern over Somali pirates was such that foreign Navies were sent to protect shipping in international waters. In one incident three alleged pirates were killed and a Somali teenager spirited away to the US to be tried, whilst eleven others were sent for trial in Kenya.

However, in the early hours of the morning (local time) of 29th June, three Israeli Navies ships intercepted and hijacked a Swedish flagged ship, the Marianne av Göteborg on route to Gaza in the State of Palestine (recognized as a State by the United Nations on 30th November 2012 by an overwhelming vote of 138-9, elevating Palestine to Non-Member Observer State a status bestowed on just one other entity, The Vatican.)

The ship was in international waters (approximately one hundred nautical miles off shore) but was boarded, towed by Israeli Navy vessels to Israel’s port of Ashdod. Cameras, computers, mobile ‘phones and belongings have been allegedly stolen by those who boarded. It is hoped they will be returned, but the track record is not good judging by the lack of return of personal – or any items, including aid cargo purchased by public donations destined for the people of Gaza – from the numerous previously pirated vessels. The Marianne was carrying a consignment of solar panels for a people whom, for most, a constant electricity supply has become a distant memory.

US church votes to boycott Israel over occupation of Palestine

One of the largest Christian Protestant denominations in the United States has overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling for divestment from companies that profit from Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories.

The United Church of Christ voted Tuesday to boycott products from Israeli settlements and divest from companies with business in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, underscoring the growing momentum of a US protest movement against Israeli policy.

The denomination’s top legislative body endorsed the action on a vote of 508-124 with 38 abstentions during its meeting in Cleveland, Ohio.

The boycott resolution was the second such measure passed by the church, which has about 1 million members and over 5,000 congregations across the US.

The first resolution, passed in 2005, called for the use of “economic leverage” Israel and had accused the Zionist regime of widespread human rights abuses against the Palestinians.

UN Commission: Israel Bombing Elementary Schools Not Considered War Crimes

‘The High Level International Military Group—a UN-commissioned group made up of 11 former chiefs of staff, generals, senior officers, and political leaders from the U.S., Germany, Spain, Holland, the U.K., Italy, Australia, and Colombia—dismissed all charges and allegations of Israel’s war crimes after investigating last summer’s attack on Gaza.

The report was issued on Saturday following the group’s five-day trip to the region in March. It ultimately claims that Israel acted responsibly and with much restraint when the IDF bombarded Gaza last summer during what is known as “Operation Protective Edge.” The report even refers to the attack as “legitimate.”

This is absolutely unbelievable to me, do none of these people have any backbone. Perhaps it is long past time to disband the UN, it is surely of little use in this world apart from protecting the evil crimes of rouge states such as Israel. The Palestinians have been suffering for far too long now, when will the world stand up to Israel, what is it they are worried about, what is the worst that can happen for criticising crimes against humanity. Israel is an occupying force in Palestine.

Has the FIFA corruption crisis saved Israel from vote to expel it from world football?

One consequence of the US order to the Swiss police, on 27 May 2015, that it arrest and extradite seven FIFA officials for alleged corruption, could be that a vote to kick Israel out of world football for its racism towards Palestinians will now not take place. The vote was due to be held by the FIFA annual congress on 29 May and expected to win majority support among the delegates. Below Geoff Lee from Palestine Solidarity Campaign explains why the vote should go ahead.

THERE IS a unique situation in the Middle East: in that one country, Israel, is deliberately hindering another – Palestine – from playing football, and exhibits racism and discrimination against Palestinians within its own jurisdiction.

Due to this, Palestinians are demanding action which is perhaps slightly belated, but nonetheless, as urgent as ever. On 20 March 2015, the Palestinian Football Federation (PFA) submitted a motion for debate at the upcoming 28-29 May FIFA annual congress in Zurich. The motion calls for the suspension of the Israeli Football Federation (IFA) from FIFA until the following conditions are satisfied:

  1. Football participants and all equipment related to the sport are able to move freely in, out and within Palestine.
  2. Football facilities are to be built and maintained in Palestine without hindrance.
  3. Football clubs established within illegal settlements in the West Bank are to be banned from playing in IFA competitions
  4.  IFA is to take firm action in order to eliminate racist and apartheid practices within its own leagues.
  5. IFA is to recognise the PFA as the sole governing body for football within Palestine.

These conditions address longstanding grievances. PFA has supported initiatives by FIFA for nearly two years, but regrettably – though not unexpectedly, these came to naught.  For this reason, it argues, strong pressure in the form of suspension of IFA is needed to bring about essential change.

Livni: Israel will surround Abbas until he surrenders to our terms

Israel will surround the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas until he accepts the Israeli terms and recognises Israel as a Jewish state, Israel’s top negotiator, Justice Minister Tzipi Livni said yesterday.

Livni told Israel’s Channel 10 that Israel will not release Palestinian prisoners who committed violent acts against Israeli citizens. “Israel will not release Palestinian prisoners with blood on their hands,” Livni said.

Livni claimed that several Arab countries have told Israel they will not transfer funds to Abbas pointing out that she had visited friendly Arab countries 11 times in the past 50 days.

Israel seeks ethnic cleansing of Palestinians: Lawyer

Israel has been pursuing an ethnic cleansing agenda against the Palestinian population to push ahead with its expansionist policies in the occupied territories, an international lawyer tells Press TV.

In a Saturday interview, Stephen Lendman slammed the ongoing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians and Tel Aviv’s inaction toward the issue, adding, “They really want the Palestinians gone. They want to steal all valued parts of the occupied territories and they want Palestinians ethnically cleansed.”

“If they can make life miserable enough for them (Palestinians), they think maybe they have their best chance of succeeding in their objective. That’s what this is all about,” he added.

On Saturday, the Palestinian Authority (PA) Minister of Social Affairs Kamal al-Sharafi said Israeli forces have killed 1,520 Palestinian children and wounded 6,000 more since 2000.

He said more than 10,000 Palestinian kids have been arrested, 200 of whom are being held in Israeli detention centers.

The real story of the UN Human Rights Council: Europe slams Israeli crimes

Last week, Israel found itself isolated and condemned in Geneva, as the United Nations Human Rights Council passed four damning resolutions, each by 46-1. The resolutions testify to grave violations of international law, including the Geneva Conventions, as well as systematic discrimination and wide-scale human rights abuses.

Settlements, whose illegality is confirmed in the resolutions, are described as entailing “the confiscation of land, the forced displacement of Palestinian civilians, including Bedouin families, the exploitation of natural resources and other actions against the Palestinian civilian population”.

The resolutions also cite “the continuing demolition of Palestinian homes and eviction of Palestinian families from [East Jerusalem]”, “the destruction of orchards and crops”, the “expulsion of Palestinians”, a “two-tier legal system”, and a “discriminatory allocation of water resources”.

Importantly, the UNHRC’s resolutions contextualise the litany of abuses as part of a “systematic violation” of Palestinians’ human rights”. Israeli policies “discriminate against” an occupied people, while settlers are afforded “preferential treatment over the Palestinian population in terms of access to roads, infrastructure, land, property, housing, natural resources and judicial mechanisms”.
