Fukushima – Over 800 Tons of Radioactive Material Pouring into Pacific Ocean

japanfukushima

There is growing evidence coming from numerous reports aired on social networks and the so-called social media, among which is the article “Radioactive Water From Fukushima Is Systematically Poisoning The Entire Pacific Ocean” which claimed that every day and for 750 days (now over 800) tonnes of toxic materials have been pouring into the Pacific Ocean.

The toxic substances were identified as Tritium, Cesium and Strontium, being carried far and wide by winds, rain and ocean currents, entering the food chain through seaweed and seafood, building up high levels of toxicity in the fish – and humans – at the top end of the consumption chain.

Fresh research provides a chilling reminder that this situation is serious, will not go away, is getting worse and cannot be swept under the carpet. This research points to “massive numbers” of sea creatures dying across the Pacific, and that high levels of Cesium-137 are present in “a very high percentage of fish” caught in this ocean “and sold in North America”.

Fukushima disaster: Plan to send residents home three years after nuclear accident labelled ‘irresponsible’

A nuclear industry insider has told the ABC that the situation at the stricken Fukushima reactor is still not under control, three years after the disaster there.

Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe has announced he wants 30,000 residents to return to their homes and the reactors to be switched back on within two years.

But a Fukushima insider and two former prime ministers have told the ABC’s 7.30 that such a move would be irresponsible.

At the risk of losing his job if his identity is revealed, a senior TEPCO staffer, who has worked at the Fukushima plant for more than 20 years, says the situation at the reactor is not under control and no-one knows how to fix the problem.

Thousands stage anti-nuclear rally in Tokyo

Thousands have rallied in Japan’s capital Tokyo to demand an end to nuclear power, ahead of the third anniversary of the Fukushima disaster.

The protesters banged on drums and waved anti-nuclear flags as they marched towards the parliament.

“Today, there is no electricity flowing in Japan that is made at nuclear plants. If we continue this zero nuclear status and if we make efforts to promote renewable energy and invest in energy saving technology, I think it’s possible to live without nuclear,” Yasuro Kawai, a 66-year-old businessman and activist from Chiba prefecture quoted as saying.

The protest is one of the several rallies planned across Japan ahead of the March 11 anniversary of the 2011 nuclear disaster.
